Educational community webinar
Join Elizabeth Vartkessian, Executive Director of Advancing Real Change, Inc., to learn more about mitigation investigation and how it is one of the most effective means of reducing the death penalty and other extreme sentences in every jurisdiction, from New York to Florida.
Mitigation investigation is the process of collecting detailed information about the lives of individuals accused of crimes so that it can be shared with judges, juries, and prosecutors who decide their fates. This work involves many hundreds of hours meeting with clients, interviewing scores of witnesses, and collecting records to develop an accurate, detailed, multi-dimensional account of the client’s life.
This is painstaking, time-consuming work, but we know that sharing these true life stories leads to more humane sentences. ARC is building the field of mitigation, supporting criminal defenders, and educating the public about the need for more empathy, justice, and mercy in our criminal legal system by telling our clients’ stories. Join us to learn more about mitigation and how you can get involved.
This event is intended for non-practitioners, but all are welcome.
