Life History Investigator, Non-Capital Cases
The LHI for non-capital cases will lead mitigation investigations on behalf of indigent clients, primarily those who have already served significant portions of lengthy sentences and are now eligible for reconsideration. These cases can include Second Look, Sentencing Modification, or other types of non-capital cases where mitigation investigation is essential to case outcomes. Cases may originate in Maryland, Washington, DC, other locations in the mid-Atlantic, or Northeast region.
Senior Life History Investigator
The Senior Life History Investigator will lead mitigation investigations on behalf of indigent clients at risk of extreme sentences. The Investigator may be asked to work on various types of cases including those where a sentence of death, life without parole, or decades incarceration is a possible outcome. Cases may originate at the federal or state level, and could be at any stage in proceedings. Regardless of the case characteristics, the Senior Life History Investigator is entrusted with ensuring that clients receive the mitigation investigation they are constitutionally guaranteed. The Senior Life History Investigator helps to guide and support other mitigation specialists, both internally through our supervision processes and externally through participation in our Training and Education Program.

Internships
Interns play a major role in our work, helping with a range of case-related tasks and research as well as supporting other areas of our work. It is our goal that all interns will receive adequate and supportive supervision and will gain meaningful exposure to mitigation and related fields. This means that we can only accept a limited number of interns per semester.
