Bring Your Own Case Capital Defense Training & Follow-Up Technical Assistance
Las Vegas, Nevada | March 26-28, 2025
The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), the Arizona Capital Representation Project (ACRP), and Advancing Real Change (ARC), Inc., are pleased to announce the spring Bring Your Own Case (BYOC) training program to be held March 26-28, in Las Vegas, Nevada. After attending the BYOC, teams are provided long-term follow-up consulting/technical assistance with experienced national capital defense faculty.
Any state level capital trial team is eligible to apply, including capital resentencing cases. For this training, priority will be given to capital defense teams working in the western portion of the United States. Teams from other regions will be considered if space is available.
What is Bring-Your-Own-Case Training?
This is an intensive client-centered training designed to provide support, consultation, and technical assistance for capital defense teams. Through a series of plenary sessions, teams will engage with foundational topics, then pair with another team to brainstorm cases in two-hour sessions guided by rotating facilitators. All expert facilitators bring a wealth of knowledge and experience as capital litigators, mitigation specialists, investigators, consulting mental health experts, and more. Participants will leave this training with specific plans of action toward the furtherance of their cases and will have built skills that can be applied to future capital defense work.
Can I attend without my team?
No. It is essential that as many team members as possible attend and participate.
When and how do teams receive post-BYOC technical assistance?
After attending the BYOC program, participating teams have an opportunity for case-specific, virtual technical support (through in-depth case consultation) with faculty, including mental health experts. These sessions are scheduled by the team and their assigned faculty.
How much does this training opportunity cost?
The BYOC training, consultation, and technical assistance are FREE! In addition, costs for travel, accommodation, and a daily per diem for meals will be provided. However, please note that we cannot compensate anyone for their time (although the brainstorming sessions and post-BYOC consulting sessions may be billable as team meetings).
If your team is interested in attending the BYOC, please have one team member complete the brief screening form no later than February 7, 2025 through this link: www.nacdl.org/capitaldefensetraining/byoc-interest-form. Teams will be notified of their acceptance by February 14, 2025.
